DIY is all the rage right now. But, for many of us, it's been a fact of everyday life for years. I for one am an avid DIYer. If I can't buy it, by gosh I'll make it. Doing just that has gained me a lot of experience over the years, and saved me A LOT of money.
Why just yesterday I DIYed a headboard out of three boards I bought at a local big box store, and some left over stain-See pic to right. Granted its not complicated(simple Scandinavian style is all the rage right now), and its also not finished completely, all that's left is to find two small lights to place on the taller boards. I simply haven't chosen them yet. By the time its finished completely, I'll have a lovely headboard, 1) That's in style with current home decorating trends. 2) only cost me about $20.00 to make. 3) Is functional and does exactly what I want it to. The added benefit is that I can boast that I made it myself.
There is another added benefit of DIY that no one ever talks about. Its the feeling that goes along with creating and bringing to fruition something you have developed in your imagination. And for me, that's the greatest gift the DIY trend has given us. To be able to grab something out of your imagination and turn it into something you can see and touch is to me, amazing. It has also been a hobby of mine for years. So do it, build something of your own, let your imagination shine, you'll be amazed what it does for your self esteem.
